Fall 2021 Cases with America’s Warrior Partnership
We started a new partnership in 2021: America’s Warrior Partnership. Their Network referred 36 veteran families to the TD Foundation from August 2021 to March 2022. TD Foundation has provided $129,014.75 in assistance with; rent, mortgage assistance, property taxes (to prevent county sale), food, furniture, vehicle repair, clothing and daycare vouchers to assist veterans in crisis around the country from Alaska to Mississippi. Families that had nowhere else to turn, were given a helping hand that immediately averted a crisis.
AWP Mission: Partnering with Communities to Prevent Veteran Suicide.
Our mission is to partner with communities to prevent veteran suicide. Our programs accomplish this by starting at the community level and understanding the unique situations of veterans and their families. We connect local veteran-serving organizations with the appropriate resources, services, and partners that they need to support veterans, their families, and caregivers at every stage of veterans’ lives. Our ultimate goal is to improve the quality of life for veterans and to end veteran suicide by empowering local communities to serve them proactively and holistically before a crisis occurs.
Our upstream approach to veteran empowerment is a four-step plan to Connect, Educate, Advocate, and Collaborate with veterans, their families, caregivers, and the communities that support them.
Here is a sample of cases from Fall 2021:
Wheelchair | Purchased 10/6
This veteran was referred to The Network by the Warrior Bonfire Program. He is a Post 911 Combat veteran, wheelchair bound due to injuries from a suicide bomber.
He is married and has 3 children in the home and an income of almost $9000 per month. The Warrior Bonfire Program has an event-hunt in South Dakota and veteran has been accepted to attend the event. He does not do much due to his disability and part of his therapy has been to alleviate boundaries and live more fully. The obstacle is his chair is too big to fly on a private plane and commercial travel would be too long of a day. There is a Jazzy Passport Pride Folding Electric Power Chair for $2,200 that would allow all of this and more opportunities to take place. The VA will not issue him another chair and he cannot afford to pay out of pocket at this time because he is moving in the next few months, to be closer to doctors and treatment opportunities in Atlanta.

Due to the degenerative nature of the disease, people with SMA will experience a decline in muscle strength over time, although the rate and severity can vary among individuals.
