The veteran served in the USMC, was combat deployed to Afghanistan, received a bronze star, and has a service-connected rating of 100%. Earlier this year he lost his job, which has been catastrophic for the family. The casework team is working diligently with the veteran on employment resources, education benefits, and transportation assistance. The veteran and his fiancée have 6 children, aged 3-11 years old, and they are struggling to provide gifts for Christmas. 

New Dad??  $1,995 – Code of Support – ex-girlfriend never told him about his son…

“I am working with a single father, lives in Maryland with his 5 year old son. He was working with his brother in the trucking business but when one of their employees quit they had to dissolve the business because they were unable to keep up. He did recently get a job and is back at work. In November, he was able to get full custody of his son. He found out about his son in March of this year because his son was placed in Foster Care and he was the father. He immediately said that he would take care of his son and was driving between Maryland and North Carolina to deal with the courts and was awarded full custody November 28th. Between losing his job and the expenses for his son he fell behind on rent and now has an eviction notice. He owes $1995 to be able to stay in his apartment.” 

New Home for Holidays  Dec 7th – Code of Support – $4,400

Combat Navy 100% disability rating including PTSD. He got separated from his partner and he has total custody of his 4 kids. He had to rent month by month which cost him 80% of his income, leaving the family in need of food and the basics to maintain a household. Fortunately, he found another place on which he will be paying much less and with it, the freedom of getting what the kids need.  We are requesting support for the deposit and 1st month of rent, for them to be able to move to this new home by the middle of this month. We are sure that with lowering the rent he will be self-sufficient by next month.

Preventing Eviction $1895 with Code of Support

“I am currently working with a Post 9/11 veteran in the Air Force reserves, currently rated at 80% SC but is also going through the Med Board process. Because he is a reservist the only pay he is receiving is his disability. He has filed for Social Security Benefits and is awaiting the final decision for the Med Board which should be any day now.  He, his wife, and 2 minor kids (10 and 17) received an eviction notice in the first part of October. He tried to find places on his own to help avoid eviction but was unable to get everything together in time. They had to move to a hotel but that hotel was closing on November 1. They were able to find a place to move into where the landlord has been flexible. They were able to put in a security deposit and most of November’s rent. I would like to ask if you are able to support the rest of the rent for November and all of December’s rent for a total of $1895. Thank you for your consideration.
