Summer 2021 Cases with New Partner America’s Warrior Partnership
We started a new partnership in 2021. America’s Warrior Partnership. Their Network referred 36 veteran families to the TD Foundation from August 2021 to March 2022. TD Foundation has provided $129,014.75 in assistance with; rent, mortgage assistance, property taxes (to prevent county sale), food, furniture, vehicle repair, clothing and daycare vouchers to assist veterans in crisis around the country from Alaska to Mississippi. Families that had nowhere else to turn, were given a helping hand that immediately averted a crisis.
AWP Mission: Partnering with Communities to Prevent Veteran Suicide.
Our mission is to partner with communities to prevent veteran suicide. Our programs accomplish this by starting at the community level and understanding the unique situations of veterans and their families. We connect local veteran-serving organizations with the appropriate resources, services, and partners that they need to support veterans, their families, and caregivers at every stage of veterans’ lives. Our ultimate goal is to improve the quality of life for veterans and to end veteran suicide by empowering local communities to serve them proactively and holistically before a crisis occurs.
Our upstream approach to veteran empowerment is a four-step plan to Connect, Educate, Advocate, and Collaborate with veterans, their families, caregivers, and the communities that support them.
Here are a couple of cases from our work together in summer of 2021:
Facing Eviction | $4,400
80% disabled Marine veteran who has not received his VA Comp pay due to a clerical error. They state it was sent to another account, just not his. Veteran is behind on his rent and utilities and is facing possible eviction.
Rent: 1100.00 x3 = 3300
Utilities: 200 x 3 = 600
Groceries: 500
Total Assistance: $4,400.00
Car Fire Repair | $2,377
This veteran served in the USMC from 2014-2015 and was discharged under honorable conditions. She is 100% service connected. This veteran was traveling home from North Carolina when her vehicle caught on fire. She was able to get her vehicle to a repair shop and then had to pay for a new way back to Pennsylvania. She is a single mother with two children and is struggling to pay for a way to repair her vehicle and get back to North Carolina to retrieve it and cover the travel expenses. This veteran needs her vehicle to be able to transport her children and make it to her medical appointments.
