School Supply Distribution in Zafraniyah, Baghdad, with 1-319 Field Artillery and Local Police – Fall 2009
…With the paradigm shift after 30 JUN, we have become more and more dependent on partnered operations. Upon the arrival of the school supplies, the staff and I mentored our Iraqi counterparts on the importance of conducting HA (humanitarian aid) missions.
I would like to thank you and your staff for the school supplies. The children were very appreciative. As you can see from the pictures, we used the opportunity for the local Federal Police to do some humanitarian assistance and get out with the people. As American forces begin to withdraw out of the cities, it will become critical for the Federal Police and ISF to improve their relationships with the local populace and assist the local government in addressing essential service needs. These school supplies were an excellent ‘practical exercise’ as we begin to transition this role over to the Federal Police. Again, we appreciate you and your staff’s dedication to improving the quality of life for Iraqis as well as assisting us in achieving a better end state in the Karada Political district.
