Eagle Scout Project 2008 – Brian McManimon of Westford, MA

In early 2007 Brain reached out and offered his help. This excerpt from his project plan sums this success story up best:

“This Eagle project, known as Operation: School Supplies for Iraqi Children (Operation: SSIC), is dedicated to giving the same amount of help and support to the recipients of these school supplies kits. By delivering these kits to numerous children all across Iraq, we will continue to spirit of the TD Foundation, the American Dream, and the Boy Scouts of America, by helping people at all times. This project shows that the spirit of the American people will always be there to lend a helping hand to those in need.

By creating these school supplies kits, we would be doing the same task as the TD Foundation, except on a local level rather than on a nation-wide stage. We would be working together to perform the same act of charity with the same goal, to help make life a little bit better each day in a region of the world desperate for help.

Also, it is promoting equality to all people in all regions of the world, not looking at them differently based upon their culture or the international stories stereotyping all the people in that region of the world. It is looking at everyone like a friend rather than an enemy along with being a helpful and generous society.”

Each of his 150 kits had the following supplies:

  • 2 boxes of 24 colored pencils
  • 6 boxes of 12 pencils (not mechanical)
  • 4 boxes of 12 pens (black or blue)
  • 1 economy pencil sharpener
  • 4-8 ½” X 11″notebooks (100 sheets of paper per notebook)
  • 1 pair of scissors (children or adult sizes)
  • 1 12″ ruler
  • 4 pink wedge erasers
  • 2 boxes of 10 colored markers
  • 4 glue sticks
  • 6 folders
  • 1 backpack*
